Giraffe Center

We flew into Nairobi on March 2. We got there late so all we did was go back to the apartment. Our first adventure was the next day going to the Giraffe Center. We were able to feed giraffes.
Aaron was pretty excited about it. They have really long tongues and they were pretty slobbery. If you were good you could feed them without getting too gross.
I thought this was a cute picture -- it looks like they are cuddling with eachother.
Nathan was quite turned off by the slobber until he found out that you could drop the food on top of the giraffe's tongue. This picture is before he ever got slobbered so he doesn't yet know to shy away from the tongue!

Katie is at the extra slobbery one. For some reason her chin hair was dripping with slobber - hence Katie's face. I mostly fed the other giraffe!
It was really neat to be able to touch the giraffes and see their long tongues. It was impressive to then go back down the stairs and see how tall the giraffes really were and how many stairs we had to climb to get to their heads.
Only 2 giraffes eat at a time. I don't know if that is what they have been taught or if it is a pecking order thing. As we were there one other giraffe kept inching it's way closer hoping to be able to eat too. I find giraffes to be quite the contradiction, because on the one hand they are quite majestic and graceful looking and on the other they are quite awkward.
